Privacy policy
The Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) welcomes you to its website. Thank you for your interest in our offering. Because we take data protection very seriously, we would like to inform you about how we process and protect the personal data that we collect when you visit and use our website. As a public institute of the Canton of Zurich, we comply with the cantonal data protection legislation (Information and Data Protection Act, IDG).
1. Consent
By using the ZHdK Experts website, you accept this privacy policy.
2. Legal grounds for processing personal data
We process personal data on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing you with information and offerings, of our legal or contractual obligations or of your consent.
3. Storage of personal data
We store personal data:
- for as long as necessary for the purposes that it is collected for or for our legitimate interest
- for as long as necessary for the fulfilment of our legal or contractual obligations
- or until you withdraw your consent.
After this, the personal data will be deleted. However, if there is a clear indication that an illegal act has been committed or an attack has been made on the network infrastructure, the deletion of the data can be postponed until the situation has been clarified.
4. Cookies
The ZHdK Experts website uses cookies. They store certain settings of your browser and data relating to the interaction with you. They also make our website more user-friendly and secure. After you close your web browser, temporary cookies are automatically deleted and persistent cookies remain stored on your computer or mobile device. Persistent cookies are used to record the behaviour of visitors to the website and to collect statistics on website use (see clause 7).
You can disable the storage of these cookies at any time by changing the settings of your web browser. This will prevent the permanent use of cookies. Please note that some functions of our website may no longer work perfectly as a result. In addition, you can use your browser or other software programs to delete cookies that have already been stored.
5. Access data
Every time you access our website, the following information is collected automatically:
- The IP address of the computer or mobile device that the website was accessed from (the referrer)
- The date and time of the visit, the content accessed, the amount of data transferred and the browser and operating system used
This information is stored in log files on the ZHdK servers in Switzerland (Zurich and Winterthur) for use in technical processes and for the statistical analysis of the accesses. This analysis is undertaken solely to improve the ZHdK website and the technology it is based on (see clause 7). To protect the security of your data during the transfer, we use the most technically up-to-date encryption method (currently via HTTPS with the integration of an SSL certificate).
6. Contact
If you contact us by e-mail or using a contact form, you agree that we can store your e-mail address, IP address and any other personal data you provide for the purpose of processing your enquiry and for possible follow-up questions. The personal data will be used and forwarded to the relevant ZHdK offices only for as long as it is required for the above-mentioned purpose. The data will not be passed on to third parties without your consent.
7. Web analytics software
General information on web analysis
You can prevent the storage of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings in your browser. However, it may then not be possible to use all the functions of the website to their full extent. The cookies remain on your device until you delete them.
We use the open-source web analytics software Matomo. Matomo uses cookies which are stored on your computer and which allow your use of the website to be analyzed. The information generated by cookies about your use of the website (including your IP address) is transmitted solely to the ZHdK servers in Switzerland (Zurich and Winterthur) and stored there. No data transfer takes place and the information is not transmitted to third parties. After the security analysis, the IP addresses are anonymized and evaluated to identify website usage and used to compile reports on website activity for ZHdK.
The following information is collected:
- IP address
- Length of stay on the website or subpage
- Subpage that you leave the website from
- Country, region or city that you access the website from
- Device (type, version, colour depth, resolution, width and height of the browser window)
- Returning or new website visitors.
8. Third-party services
a. Hosting

b. Linked websites
Much of the database content can lead to third-party websites. Users are responsible for the use of these linked websites and for observing their privacy policy. ZHdK accepts no responsibility whatsoever for the accuracy, completeness or legality of the content and offerings on these websites.
c. Rights of website visitors
Website visitors have the right to request information at any time about the personal data about them that is being stored and how it is used, as well as the right to correct, transfer, block or delete this data. If consent to the use of personal data has been given, this can be withdrawn at any time. The withdrawal of consent has no impact on the effectiveness of the data processing activities we have carried out in the past.

10. Data security and confidentiality
By using appropriate technical and organizational security measures, we protect the stored personal data against manipulation, loss and unauthorized access by third parties. These measures are continuously being improved. However, the transmission of information via the Internet and other electronic means is always subject to certain security risks and ZHdK cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted in this way.
The employees of ZHdK, our web design agency Nextension GmbH (Zurich) and the service providers we use have undertaken to keep information confidential and to comply with the provisions of data protection law in accordance with their employment contracts (which include an obligation of official secrecy) or service agreements.
11. Changes to this privacy policy
This privacy policy is subject to change with immediate effect and without notice as the website evolves and as new technologies and amendments to the law are implemented.
